Done with Facebook

I've made a resolution to stop reading Facebook, and I think my life is improving as a result. The raison d'etre of Facebook is making your life look as good and as exciting as possible - with the unfortunate consequence that all of us reading the status updates feel as bad as possible about our own lives. Even if our lives are exciting, the fact that someone else is uploading photos and videos makes that other event look, prejudicially, better. I've tried this last week to renounce facebook. Success has been limited, because I still log on about once every 2 or 3 days, but even the reduction is a big improvement in my quality of life.

On the subject of virtual worlds: I should admit now that this blog is functionally passe. I've always acknowledged that the blog thrives when life sucks, and I suppose it's a good sign that I've been less preoccupied with the blog. Life is good, and there's nothing to complain about. Also, the smaller investment in the virtual world is compensated with the larger investment in real life. Nevertheless, still have some commitment to the life of the mind separate from the phenomenal world, and in hopes of reviving what I've cultivated here, I've decided that the blog will be made public again.

All the really incriminating posts will be removed in a few days, so if you remember any incriminating comments (probably not), here's fair warning. But even without the censorship, I think the main impetus for privatizing the blog has all but dissipated. VJ and other jackasses aren't in my life anymore, an dI suppose I haven't fanned any new nemeses.

I'm a Baller

I'm employed for the summer, though not gainfully: I got a Ninth Circuit externship!

It's been a good week. My horoscope said that I'd have a run of good luck until January 5, after which Jupiter left Capricorn. In the case of the job, I more or less fell ass-backwards in luck.

Now, if only I can work in some gainful employment for the summer...
